Here are some of the most common options:
  • Usage Fee. This model allows users to pay for charging based on kilowatt-hours (kWh). Charging stations may have a fixed price per kWh or a variable price that changes depending on the time of day or demand level.
  • Subscription. A subscription-based model lets users pay a fixed fee for a set period—such as a month or a year—for unlimited charging. This model is often used by charging networks operating multiple stations.
  • Membership. Membership-based systems allow users to join a charging network and access discounted rates or other benefits. Membership fees can be paid monthly or annually.
  • Prepaid Cards. Charging station operators can sell prepaid cards that users can use to pay for charging sessions. These cards can be loaded with a specific monetary value or a set number of charging sessions.
  • In-App Payments. Some charging station operators have developed mobile apps that allow users to locate charging stations, pay for charging sessions, and track their charging history. In-app payments can be linked to a credit card or other payment method.
